Things to do in Brașov: a practical 1-day and 2-day itinerary
Brașov's historic centre is compact enough to see on foot in one day: Council Square, the Black Church, Rope Street, Catherine's Gate and the Schei quarter. A second day adds Tâmpa and a day trip. Times and prices below come from each attraction's own website.
1 day or 2 days?
| 1 day in Brașov | 2 days in Brașov | |
|---|---|---|
| Old Town loop | Yes — morning | Day 1, at an easy pace |
| Black Church inside | Yes, if open (check the day) | Day 1 |
| Schei & First Romanian School | Walk through; museum if time | Day 1 afternoon, with the museum |
| Tâmpa | Cable car up at the end of the day | Day 2 morning — ride or hike |
| Day trip | No | Day 2: Bran, Peleș or Râșnov |
If you only have 1 day
- ✓Start at Council Square (Piața Sfatului), the centre of the Old Town. Bus A1 and line 4 stop nearby at Livada Poștei.
- ✓Visit the Black Church, just off the square. Mondays and Sundays it opens at 12:00: 16 Oct – 31 Mar: Tue–Sat 10:00–18:00, Sun–Mon 12:00–18:00; 1 Apr – 15 Oct: Tue–Sat 10:00–19:00, Sun–Mon 12:00–19:00; last entry 20 min before closing; closes for about 2 hours for services and concerts (announced on its website).
- ✓Walk to Rope Street (Strada Sforii), a very narrow lane between two streets, then on to Catherine's Gate.
- ✓Continue into the Schei quarter to St Nicholas Church and the First Romanian School museum (Mon–Fri 10:00–17:00, Sat 11:00–17:00, Sun 12:00–14:00 (opens after the church service on Sundays and holidays); last entry 16:30).
- ✓Walk back towards the centre and take the Tâmpa cable car up for the view over the Old Town (Mon 12:30–21:30; Tue–Thu and Sun 10:30–21:30; Fri–Sat 10:30–22:30).
- ✓Evening: back in Council Square. If you leave by train, see the station to Old Town guide for the bus back.
If you have 2 days
- ✓Day 1 — Old Town and Schei: the same loop as above at a slower pace, with time inside the Black Church and the First Romanian School.
- ✓Day 2 morning — Tâmpa: ride the cable car (return 45 lei adult / 30 lei child (6–12); one way 30 lei adult / 20 lei child) or hike up on the marked forest trails, and see the BRAȘOV sign from the summit area.
- ✓Day 2 afternoon — choose one: Bran Castle by bus (see current ticket prices), Râșnov's citadel garden or, if you have a full day, Peleș in Sinaia.
- ✓Bear sanctuary instead? Libearty runs guided tours in the morning only, so it needs Day 2 morning.

Rain, kids or just a few hours
| Situation | Do this | Skip or move |
|---|---|---|
| Rainy day | Black Church, First Romanian School, other museums | Tâmpa — views and trails are poor in cloud |
| With kids | Tâmpa cable car (child fare for ages 6–12), Rope Street, Council Square | Long museum visits |
| Only a few hours | Council Square → Black Church → Rope Street | Schei and Tâmpa |
| Monday | Old Town walk in the morning; Black Church and Tâmpa from 12:00/12:30 | Libearty (closed Mondays) |
What can you skip?
Short on time, skip the inside of museums other than the Black Church, and walk past Catherine's Gate rather than planning around it.
Skip Tâmpa when the mountain is in cloud — the reason to go up is the view. Skip a same-day Bran trip if you have only one day; it takes most of an afternoon with the bus each way (see the timetable).
Getting around

- ✓Driving in? Park outside the historic core — see Old Town parking.
- ✓Arriving before check-in or leaving late? Luggage storage in Brașov lists confirmed bag drops with prices and hours.
FAQs
Is one day enough for Brașov?
For the Old Town, yes: the main sights are walkable in one day. Stay two days if you want Tâmpa at a relaxed pace or a day trip to Bran or Peleș.
How much does the Black Church cost?
adults 30 lei; pensioners and university students 25 lei; school pupils up to 18 20 lei; children up to 7 free. Hours: 16 Oct – 31 Mar: Tue–Sat 10:00–18:00, Sun–Mon 12:00–18:00; 1 Apr – 15 Oct: Tue–Sat 10:00–19:00, Sun–Mon 12:00–19:00; last entry 20 min before closing; closes for about 2 hours for services and concerts (announced on its website).
How do I get up Tâmpa?
By cable car from near the Old Town (return 45 lei adult / 30 lei child (6–12); one way 30 lei adult / 20 lei child; Mon 12:30–21:30; Tue–Thu and Sun 10:30–21:30; Fri–Sat 10:30–22:30) or on foot by the marked trails.
What is there to do in Brașov when it rains?
Go inside the Black Church and the First Romanian School museum (Mon–Fri 10:00–17:00, Sat 11:00–17:00, Sun 12:00–14:00 (opens after the church service on Sundays and holidays); last entry 16:30), and save Tâmpa for a clear day.
Can I visit Bran Castle and see Brașov in one day?
It's rushed. Bran takes most of a day by bus. Better to give Brașov one day and Bran another — see Brașov to Bran Castle.
